Job title: Supervisor

Responsible to: Manager

Hours :                 A minimum of 18 hours per week term time only

Purpose of the job: To be responsible for the curriculum planning and management of the provision, including staffing levels in the absence of the Manager.  To provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting. To work and support if requested at Brough Eagles Out of School Club.

 and follow the prescribed policy and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding

 across the whole organisation.

Main duties 

  1. To manage the setting and undertake all the necessary duties in the absence of the Manager
  2. To support the Manager with input for the planning, delivery and monitoring of the curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for guidance. 
  3. To help to set up for the day and to help tidy away at the end of the session. 
  4. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met. 
  5. To work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members. 
  6. To advise the Manager of any concerns e.g. health and well-being of children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary. 
  7. To take action to support the setting to achieve and maintain a minimum good Ofsted rating at the next inspection. 
  8. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences. 
  9. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures. 
  10. To support meal times within the setting. 
  11. To actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings. 
  12. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for personal development. 
  13. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job. 
  14. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting. 
  15. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly. 
  16. To support the manager in promoting and marketing the setting to current parents and potential customers in the local community. ensuring that occupancy targets are met and maximised. 

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder will be required to          undertake any other reasonable duties discussed and directed by the line manager. The post holder is also expected to be flexible and adaptable in their approach to fulfilling their duties.

Person specification

Essential criteria

1. Willingness to learn and undertake further training. 

2. Minimum of Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or valid equivalent. Please check this before applying Check early years qualifications – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk

3. Academically able and must have GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English or equivalent. 

4. Experience of working with children 2-4 years old. 

5. Sound understanding of child development and children’s needs with an ability to plan and implement the curriculum in accordance with the EYFS, taking in to account the SEN and Disability Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures and equality & diversity considerations. 

6. To effectively market the setting to maximise occupancy levels and fee income. 

7. Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to the Early Years

8. Good verbal and written communication skills. 

9. A working knowledge of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development. 

10. A commitment to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding. 

11. A commitment to equal opportunities. 

12. A commitment to working effectively with young children and families.  Be aware of the harmful impact on children of discriminatory experiences and ensure that children feel valued and respected for who they are 

13. A friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships. 

14. Suitable both mentally and physically, to care for children. Ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to multi task 

15. Eligibility to work in the U.K.

Desirable criteria 

1. Current valid Paediatric First Aid qualification. 

2. Recent Safeguarding training 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.
